If Paris is a city you love, Delft is a town that charms you

A few loose ends from St Germain and we are off to Delft...

The terrace - don't know where Dumas is supposed to have written his books. But I picture him sitting on the terrace...

For Katie...

So, we walked in to town to the RER station, caught a train to Chatelet station in Paris, where the rat catcher was and then one to Gare du Nord, and finally an ICE train to Rotterdam. Because we were on Eurail passes, we were in 1st class and got to use the lounge while waiting.

Bill working on his presentation for the meeting in the Netherlands.

ICE trains

Our meal was the most health conscious one we'd had so far...

Rotterdam

And then short ride to Delft on a local train

First thing you notice about Delft is bikes everywhere...

See the long row of grey things? They are bikes parked at the train station...

A very long line of them...

The station as we were walking into town

Maybe half a mile to our hotel right near the main square, behind the "new" church.

This building was built in the 1600's and in 1922 became a bakery owned by the current owners' great grandfather. They started the hotel above it and later closed the bakery and bought the building next door, a former coal shop.

We had the very large Jan Vermeer (famous artist from Delft in case you didn't know whose most famous painting is probably the Girl with Blue Earings) room - consisting of a large room decorated to represent the art of Jan Vermeer with a loft above - we could have had guest...

More of the room later. We walked around seeing one charming site after another...so here are a few of them.

So thirsty and then hungry .... First we went to a place for some Belgian dark beer on the beest markt square.

And then to a restaurant recommended by our hotel

Where Bill had rabbit in goose fat (ok, sounds weird but tastes really good)

And I had seafood called Brammer with a glass of bocksinthe that came with it...

Also vegetables

And the end of the day - coming up more cute stuff in Delft, a truly impressive church, some Delft history and more good food - seriously good!!
